Flowering size orchid

Dracula polyphemus 'red' is a striking form of the Colombian cloud forest species, whose large, triangular flower with long, thread-like sepal tips is reminiscent of the 'eye' of its namesake. The plants grow epiphytically in cool to temperate altitudes and prefer consistently very humid conditions with good air circulation. Partially shaded to shady locations, consistently fresh, airy substrate (e.g., loosely packed sphagnum moss in a hanging basket or a pot with side slits), and soft water are ideal. The inflorescences often appear laterally or hanging and bear single, impressive flowers with a velvety texture and contrasting markings; in the 'red' selection, darker to reddish tones predominate. Cultivation instructions: keep very moist, avoid waterlogging, cultivate in temperate conditions with a significant nighttime temperature drop, partial shade, no pronounced dormancy period. Fertilize weakly (e.g., twice a month) during active growth. The flowering period often falls in the cooler season and, under good conditions, extends over several months.
