The Pleione formosana, also known as the Taiwan orchid, is a small, earthbound orchid originally native to the mountainous regions of Taiwan. It is characterized by its unique beauty and its ability to thrive in a wide range of conditions. In spring, the Pleione formosana produces a single, large, bright pink flower surrounded by a light green, folded leaf. After the flowering period, which lasts about two weeks, the plant develops one or two large, elongated leaves. This orchid prefers a well-drained, humus-rich soil and a partially shaded location. It is frost-tolerant and can therefore be cultivated outdoors even in temperate climates. The Pleione formosana is an easy-care and robust orchid that is also suitable for beginners.
