Cattleya intermedia 'aquinii' is a special, peloric form of the Brazilian species C. intermedia, in which the lip markings extend onto the petals, creating the characteristic splash-petal effect. This species grows in coastal forests and on rocky outcrops (restinga) in southern and southeastern Brazil as an epiphytic or lithophytic, bifoliate Cattleya with slender pseudobulbs. It prefers bright, airy light with some direct sunlight, temperate conditions, and good air circulation. In cultivation, it typically blooms from spring to early summer (approximately March to June) with fragrant, medium-sized flowers about 10–12 cm in diameter; the color varies depending on the clone, with 'aquinii' typically featuring strikingly colored petals in line with the lip. Keep the substrate consistently slightly moist during active growth, allowing for distinct drying periods; water much less frequently in winter. Fertilize moderately and regularly during the growing season. This shape combines classic Cattleya elegance with a distinctive flower appearance – ideal for collectors of historical Cattleya lines.
