C. Valentine coerulea 'HY 8'' is a selected Cattleya hybrid with elegant, cool, bluish-violet tones (coerulea form). The plant grows sympodially as an epiphyte with thickened pseudobulbs and usually one leaf per bulb; flower sheaths announce flowering. The well-formed flowers, approximately 10–12 cm in diameter, have broad, slightly wavy petals and a distinctly marked lip; a pleasant fragrance is typical. The plants reach a height of approximately 25–30 cm. Cultivation prefers bright, filtered light (partial shade), good air circulation, and an airy substrate (e.g., coarse bark). Keep the plant moderately moist, allowing it to dry slightly between waterings. Fertilize lightly every two weeks from March to November; water somewhat less frequently and fertilize little to not at all in winter. Suitable for temperate to warm conditions with a noticeable but moderate nighttime temperature drop. 'HY 8' refers to a horticultural selection/clone line within the coerulea color group.
