Dendrobium parishii is a strongly fragrant, deciduous species from the monsoon belt of South and Southeast Asia (including Northeast India, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam). Its drooping, slender stems (usually 20–40 cm) bear large, silky-matte flowers in spring and early summer, ranging in color from pale pink to purple. These flowers often have a velvety, darker throat and a light, spherical marking on the lip. The flowers reach about 4–5 cm in diameter and emerge from the mature, leafless pseudobulbs after a pronounced winter dormancy – intensely and pleasantly fragrant. Cultivation: very bright light with filtered light and good air circulation. Keep warm to temperate during the growing season and water evenly. Reduce watering in autumn and cultivate in significantly drier and somewhat cooler conditions during dormancy until buds begin to form. Fertilize moderately during the active growth period. This species is ideally suited for hanging baskets or for mounting, allowing the stems to cascade freely. It was botanically described in 1862 (Rchb.f.) after the collector C. Parish.
