Flowering size orchid

An elegant miniature orchid for lovers of cool cloud forests: Masdevallia nidifica var. alba captivates with its delicate, densely bushy growth and pure white flowers devoid of pigment. The plant forms short ramical cauls with narrow-elliptical, leathery leaves, from which emerge fine, upright flower stalks, each bearing a delicately triangular flower with the sepals fused into a tube, typical of Masdevallia. The alba clone displays a clear, fresh white coloration, occasionally with a slightly greenish tinge at the tube. This species is native to cool to temperate mountain and cloud forests of Central and Northwest South America, where it grows as an epiphyte in high humidity. In cultivation, it thrives best in consistently moist, airy substrate (e.g., fine bark with added sphagnum moss), with high humidity, good air circulation, and partial shade. Temperate to rather cool temperatures and consistently slightly moist substrate promote sustained vitality. The species often blooms over a longer period of the year, frequently in the cooler months; new flowers can appear one after the other, without a pronounced rest period.
