Plants with 2-3 shoots, flowering strongly at dusk, pleasantly fragrant blossoms

Neofinetia falcata (currently Vanda falcata) is a traditional, small, monopodial species from Japan and Korea. It forms elegant, fan-shaped tufts of slightly sickle-shaped, leathery leaves. In late spring to summer, slender panicles appear with several pure white, star-shaped flowers about 3 cm wide; a characteristic feature is the long, backward-pointing spur. The fragrance is sweet and particularly noticeable in the evening and at night. Vanda falcata prefers bright, slightly filtered light, good air circulation, and cultivation as a mounted plant or in loose substrates (e.g., sphagnum moss or a very airy bark mix). Water evenly during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings; keep it somewhat cooler and drier in winter. Fertilize lightly but regularly during the growing season. Suitable temperatures range from cool to intermediate.
