Flowering size orchid

Paphiopedilum thaianum is a compact lady's slipper orchid species from southern Thailand, where it grows on calcareous rocks at low elevations. The plants form dense, rosette-like fans with attractively marbled leaves and remain very manageable with a leaf span of about 10–14 cm. The inflorescence typically bears a single, delicate flower about 3–4(–5) cm in diameter: pure white to pale white with fine green veins in the sepal, subtle purple speckles in the center, and a cream-green staminode – typical for the Brachypetalum section. The flower usually appears from late spring to summer and lasts a long time. Cultivation: Partial shade to bright light without direct midday sun, warm to warm-intermediate temperature range, high humidity and good air circulation. Keep evenly slightly moist, avoiding waterlogging. A very well-draining substrate with a lime content (e.g., fine bark with some limestone grit/shells) mimics its natural habitat. Fertilize sparingly, about every two weeks during active growth. A pronounced dormancy period is not necessary; simply water more sparingly in winter.
