Tillandsia usneoides – also known as "Louisian moss" or "Spanish moss" – is an epiphytic bromeliad with long, finely branched, silvery-gray stems that hang gracefully in loose garlands. The plant uses densely hairy trichomes to absorb water and nutrients from the air, requires no substrate, and thrives when hung or mounted. Origin: southeastern USA through Mexico and the Caribbean to Central and parts of South America. With proper care, the bunch offered here reaches a length of approximately 50–60 cm. The flowers are very small, greenish to yellowish-green, delicately fragrant (especially in the evening), and appear sporadically depending on conditions, usually from spring to summer. Care: bright location with good air circulation, from partial shade to gentle sun; avoid direct midday sun. Mist regularly or water briefly, then allow to dry completely; high humidity is beneficial. Fertilize very lightly 1-2 times a month. Cultivate frost-free; ideally 15-30 °C. A dormancy period is not required.
