Flowering size orchid
Product description: Vanda merrillii 'Black Knight' is sometimes listed in cultivation as var. rotorii; it is a Philippine, epiphytic, monopodial Vanda with a compact, upright growth habit and strong aerial roots – ideal for baskets or mounting. This selection is known for its particularly dark-colored flowers: the approximately 5–7 cm (2–3 inch) waxy flowers display deep dark tones with a contrasting lip. With proper care, flowers appear several times a year, with a peak from late spring to autumn. A bright to very bright location with slightly filtered sunlight and good air circulation is ideal; warm-intermediate to warm temperatures are beneficial. Consistent watering with rapid drying of the roots is appreciated; fertilize regularly with a weak solution during the growing season (e.g., 2–3 times a month). Origin: Philippines (lower to mid-elevations), where the species grows as an arboreal plant in humid, light-filled habitats. A pronounced rest period is not necessary, however, it is advisable to water more sparingly in winter when humidity is high.
