Beautifully cultivated plants, mounted on strings

Brassavola cucullata is an elegantly growing, epiphytic species from the lowlands to mid-elevations of Mesoamerica (Mexico to Central America). Slender pseudobulbs bear cylindrical, upright leaves; compact clumps reach about 30–40 cm in height. The species flowers primarily from summer to autumn: 1–2 large, spider-like flowers per stem with very long, narrow sepals and petals (greenish-white to cream) and a characteristic, hooded, white lip. An intense fragrance, noticeable especially at night, is typical. Cultivation: very bright to sunny (slightly filtered sunlight), warm to intermediate temperatures, good air circulation. Water regularly during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry out well between waterings; keep slightly drier in winter. Fertilize sparingly, preferably in a low concentration during active growth.
